The audacity of hope! Only in America!
Obama must know how David felt when he knocked off Goliath. Using only a slingshot of hope he knocked HRC right between the eyes and put her down for the count. The truth is, this thing has been over for some time but it is hard to recognize when giants fall. Political historians will write volumes on this campaign. David Alexrod is the new Karl Rove, the old Karl Rove is ducking subpoenas, and Carville is muttering gibberish about Judas. The political world has shifted, the boomers were told too just f.f.f..fade away, you tube rules and the Internet is king. The Clinton machine was outboxed, out fund-raised, out-organized and simply out-smarted. The Clintons ran a campaign that only offered hope for voters with nostalgia for the 90's, the return of pantsuits, and a love of the ill timed cackle. It lost to a younger, smarter candidate that was gasp, multi-racial!
America has moved forward and a new generation will lead this country forward. The boomers, predictably, will cling to McCain while they pull shawls over themselves and pet their cats. They will find comfort in the familiar assumptions, the usual patterns, and will fail to realize that history has just passed them by.
BARACK OBAMA WILL BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
P.S. I have called every presidential race correctly since I voted for Reagan at Rivera Halls mock vote in 84 and I take all comers: Who wants to bet?

Pete Townshend was asked if he still believed in the lyrics of "My Generation" and thus will he just fade away? And he said "I might change that now" And HIllary Clinton's only wish was that she hoped Obama would die before he got old.
Haha enough Who puns. Congratulations to Barack Obama, This race begins today, and it is all about race. I look forward to seeing how Barack will convince the middle america rednecks to vote for him. Because, "Aint he a Muslim?"
I also hope that Barack gives Hillary the HHS job because I look forward to a second debacle..haha
No way I'm taking that bet. As much as I prayed for an Obama victory, I just couldn't imagine it actually happening.
And Garrett, watch out what you hope for with the HHS position, it just could happen. But as long as he doesn't offer her the VP, I'll be ok.
By all means the election is his to lose. Bush handed both houses to the democrats in '06 and is poised to hand them a third house... a white one. The primary debacle may hurt O's chances, but we will see.
I am curious about to things:
First, Matt - what makes Obama so appealing. To read your first post it is because he opposed the war when you didn't, because he believes in change (but you make no statement what kind of change), and because he is black. In this last post you seem to suggest it is because he is young and the boomers just need to step aside - they are has beens (no offense Bob) and the younger generation is almost de facto right when it comes to how to lead. Help me to understand what it is about Obama that should garner my support if I don't think being different, black and young are enough.
Second, Garrett - why do you think the race is going to be all about race? Not that I am naive enough to think that it won't play a factor - but do you think that this is over-stating things a bit? Are you supporting McCain because he is white?
Bretty....I may be oversimplfying I bit, but Florida is a state that Obama will have a very hard time winning, because of the high Jewish population, same with the Pennsylvania, (a state bush almost won in 2000) And same with Ohio (You have a bunch of middle to low income country folk who are uneducated, and will not vote for a black man no matter what. As Barack himself put it, they cling to their guns and bible...So the election may come down to these states, and hence, the racial factor.
I would happily vote for a black republican candidate. If we could get a candidate with Baracks charisma? Are you kidding, I would vote for him in a second.
I am not voting for him because he is an extreme liberal Chicago politician, and I am a moderate conservative. I agree with Obama on some issues though, and they are abortion, gay rights, stem cell research etc....no suprise there right? Other than that, I believe the primary function of the government is to protect us (national defense) and take away restrictions on success (taxes) I believe however that we should take care of those who can't take care of themselves, and we do, thats why we have medicaid, medicare, etc. Any able bodied person who wants to in this country can suceed, we bend over backwards to provide minorites every possible way to get to college and get a good job, and thus have health insurance. Barack is a living example of this, but he still is more for redistribution of wealth, which I hate.
Gar - thanks that was extremely helpful. Yes Florida and Ohio are bound to be tough for him - in THAT sense it could be very tough. That means the final decision could very well be decided by race (which would be very unfortunate) - which is somewhat different to saying it all revolves around race - but it could all come down to race - thanks.
That being said, I didn't think you were opposed to O because of his race - just trying to illustrate a point that he could be opposed on the merits of his positions, not just his race.
Also - is it me or did you equate racism with a religion and guns? (you said "And same with Ohio (You have a bunch of middle to low income country folk who are uneducated, and will not vote for a black man no matter what. As Barack himself put it, they cling to their guns and bible...") Heaven forbid people cling to the first and second amendment! After all eight rights would have been sufficient for the Bill of Rights - what were those founding fathers thinking?!?! Suggesting that people who defend the first and second amendments are de facto racists (me being one of them) sounds a little bigoted.... but hey that's just me.
Hey Brett, vote for Obama to end the war. Simple.
Check out this article about Iraq and what is really going on over there:
http://www.truthout.org/article/what-it-really-means-when-america-goes-war
There are alot of bets that I will make but betting on the future of the greatest country on earth, count me out.
While I am not excited about either candidate that the Reps and Dems have put forth I will be voting for the person that is going to put the safety of the country first, that being John McCain and not "cut and run" out of Iraq as fast he can like Barrack Obama wants to do. To bring the troops home in such a manner would be political suicide not to mention dishonoring the men and women who fought and died in Iraq and Afghanistan. We live in the land of the free only because of the brave. I know that there are alot different takes on the war in Iraq. I may be one of the few that felt it was necessary to go into Iraq and Afghanistan after 911 and still feel the same way today. If we withdraw before claiming victory in Iraq, Al Qaeda would survive and claim victory. I feel that it would destablize the entire region with neighboring countries, i.e. Iran coming to their aid. Iran has huge nuclear ambitions and would view our withdrawal as a victory. I believe their influence in the Middle East would grow significantly. We cannot let that happen. If we cut and run the chances of the entire Middle East (except Israel, of course) turning
their support to Iran is quite simply, terrifying.
I do not question Obamas intelligence, but I do doubt his judgement and knowledge on Foreign Affairs. It would be great if we lived in a world without enemies but that isn't the world we live in. It worries me if he is elected whether he has the strength and determination to keep us safe.
Sorry for rambling on about the Iraq situation. But I feel the person that needs to lead this country has to be strong on defense. Because let's face it without the best defense, which we have everything else is just secondary.
Thanks for listening. Susan
P.S. These baby boomers don't own any rocking chairs, shawls or cats........ :). In fact the boomer that I live with is heading out on a 55 mile backpacking trip at the end of the month. Then again he may need that rocking chair when it's over....hee, hee. Love ya
The Brett and Garrett Show moves to a new blog.
Not everyone who is a christian and owns a gun is racist. Of course not! But if you profile certain areas of the country you see certain characteristics. If someone is over 45, white, owns a gun, and attends an evangelical church, chances are statistics show that they will not vote for a black man, (adding in the fact that the black man is liberal democrat, doesn't help)
I am a staunch supporter of second amendment rights, because if someone breaks into your house, you need a gun to blow their head off!
BTW Susan, can you define what "victory in Iraq" means?
