Oil Pipelines and Roman ruins

Today is the five year anniversary of Bush prancing around underneath the famous "Mission Accomplished" banner on top of an aircraft carrier. After a five year occupation of a foreign nation the question must be asked, is America an empire in denial? Thomas Jefferson wrote "it is the duty of a patriot to always question his country." Why does Bush not engage the American people and the press in an honest assessment of what has happened in this war and why we are fighting in Iraq? Iraq is a tremendously complex country that the American people cannot understand. All of us, myself included, believed and wanted the success we had in Gulf War I. Now, in the sixth year of Gulf War II, we are fighting an undefined enemy who is willing to kill himself to kill Americans. How do you defeat this mentality? In an 2003 interview General David Petraeus spoke of being in northern Iraq and looking at oil pipelines snaking over Roman ruins, if we do not learn from history what hope do we have?
So, this is my first political blog in some time. I have heard rumors that some people believed my enthusiasm for Obama may be waning. Let me assure you that my belief in him has only increased as he has dealt with the ridiculous non-issue of his pastor. John McCain's pastor said that God sent hurricane Katrina as God's punishment for the gay parade in New Orleans. I can't wait to see the "outrage" that the comment brings. This entire discussion is so absurds, what policy could possible be affected by what his pastor has to say? Take a look at some comments about America that Nixon, Reagan, and Bush have said, again these were CANIDATES!
I will vote for Obama because he does not treat the voters like they are children at the petting zoo and he will give them an ice-cream cone if they vote for him. He also does not try to "scare" the voters into voting for him. He has campaigned with dignity and intelligence and he will win in 08. The only people who still think Hillary has a real shot also think she looks hot in those pantsuits (wink, wink).
I will leave you with an acerbic quote from General David Petraus in 2003. It is important to note that it was 2003

"We are here for liberation not occupation"

P.S. I will now go back to blogging about the Hills, why can't L.C. and Steven get together?

W can't engage the american people in an honest discussion because anything he says "negative" about the war effort will give comfort to the enemy. About the closest he gets is the "mistakes were made" refrain, but he is not going to do a point by point commentary on everything. And obviously the american people have made up their mind on Iraq, the majority thinks it was a mistake to invade. And looking back on it, it certainly was a mistake. But the question is what to do now? I don't think there will be huge change in what happens over there whether Mac or Barack gets in. I always go back to Pelosi and the dems running on getting out of Iraq, and then voting to continue funding it. Maybe Barack will be different, I agree with his withdrawl in principle, but not with his 18 month timetable....

Good assessment of Bush. He truly has made mess out of almost everything - war, healthcare, you name it. My question is - what did TJ (that's what his friends call him) mean when he said it is the duty of the patriot to question his government? Was not he for limited government with a small and defined job? In what ways other than 'questioning' is BO like him? My question is are any of the answers to their questions the same or just the formal fact that that they have questions? I have no interest with big government. My problem with W is not that he was too conservative, but that I couldn't tell him apart from Teddy 'I'll give you a ride home now' Kennedy.

PS... before you turn around and say 'yeah what about McCain...' see Garrett's blog... I think they're all hacks... :) I am extremely frustrated with options and think we are in for 4-8 years of a nightmare no matter who gets elected.

Running for the President of the United States....... Obama vs. Clinton on the Democratic side. I don't need to go there with regard to Mrs. Clinton. She and her husbands record and stay in the White House speaks for itself. They are self serving politicians out for fame and fortune. Obama on the other hand is a relativily newcomer to the political scene. He spent 8 years in the Illinois Sentate and 3 years as a freshman Senator in Washington. Like Senator Clinton from New York most of those years in Washington have been spent setting themselves up to run for the Democratic nominee in 2008. While there has been alot of attention in the last month with regard to Obamas pastor, Uncle Jeremiah as he affectionately called him there have been numerous opionions, pro and con as to whether this topic should even be discussed and if it really matters. I for one think it does matter. Character counts. Keep in mind Obama is not running for President of his senior class in High School. We the American people have every right to know facts about who is running, on both sides for the President of the United States. Obama was a member of Wrights church for 20 years. He was married by him, his 2 children were baptized by him and Obama has mentioned on numerous occasions that Wright was like a father to him and he was his mentor. It is beyond me how anyone can actually think that Obama sat in the pews for 20 years and NEVER heard Wright spew his hatred towards America and white people!!! Come on. Obama has been all over the place with regard to this what he heard and what he didn't hear. One minute he says he never heard him preach these things, then he says well maybe I heard a couple of the sermons and I let Wright now I didn't like it. He also said that he could no more disown Jeremiah than he could his white Grandmother. Well that changed when Wright went on the speaking circuit and continued his hate speeches. When Obama saw that by his NOT denouncing Wright earlier it may be hurting him in the polls then and only then did he decided to throw Uncle Jeremiah under the bus. A pretty amazing turn of events and one that leaves me with a HUGE question on who the real Obama is. Love ya, Susan
