The rise of the great pumpkin

Hillary did the job the last night but as usual Bill stole the show. It was amazing how he was able to get his eyes so misty as he mouthed, i love you. The camera just happened to be on him to capture this "private" moment. This guy is so slick he could sell ice to Eskimos. I think that Bill Clinton is one of the most remarkable and interesting politicians that our country has ever turned out. Think about it, where else but America could a man from such humble beginnings rise to the most powerful office in the land? He did it completely on his own. He had no powerful connections or family ties (like W or JFK). Clinton succeeded in political life by an alchemy of personal charm, intelligence, improvisation and a flexible mind. I have often felt that he realized at an early age that he needed Hillary in his life to move him up the political ladder. It is one of my life goals to meet Clinton and talk with him for a few moments. Clinton's rise was purely American, F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote about him in The Great Gatsby. O.K. i must save my thoughts on Clinton for after the speech. Back to Hillary:
It was an excellent move to have Chelsea introduce her Mom. This softens up Hillary's image and reminds all of us that she has human qualities. Hillary even made a pantsuit joke and asked the fundamental question, "were you in it just for me?" Hillary has no gifts as a public speaker but she did an adequate job of throwing her support behind Obama. Can't wait for the speech tonight.
What a country!

Tricky Dick also rose from nothing and made it on sheer guts. The PBS American Experience President series did a pretty cool biography on him.

As for ole Slick, yes his political skills are amazing, he is equally adept at debating, giving a speech, has quick wit and intelligence, and radiates charisma...he is the only 'five tool" politician I have ever seen....George H was no match for him in 1992, especially with the economy...but now the Bushes and Clintons are best friends.

My favorite all time scene is W and Clinton leaning around their wives, and eagerly chatting with each other, cracking jokes, etc at the Clinton Library inauguration.

Vintage Clinton. The Slickmeister did a fairly good job tonight. He was basking and glowing in the limelight when he was introduced. After a couple of minutes he sternly ordered everyone to sit down. But you know he would have loved to have the applause go on and on and on. I felt he gave more of a thumbs up to Obama than HRC did in her speech last night. But he also seemed to be praising Biden more tha Obama which was quite interesting. I had heard that his speech was only going to be 10 minutes but in fact it lastest for 22 minutes. Perhaps all the applause in the beginning cut into the speech. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best I would give him a 5. Love ya, Susan
