Do you support the Bush Doctrine?

"Do you support the Bush Doctrine?" This simple question was asked of McCains V.P. pick and she appeared as startled as a moose in the headlights to this query. She looked at the interviewer, paused for time, and said, "in what sense do you mean?" The Bush doctrine is the most fundamental shift in American foreign policy since the Monroe Doctrine. The Bush Doctrine asserts that the United States has the right to launch a preemptive strike on a foreign nation. The very fact that Palin seemed unsure of what the Bush Doctrine stated is reason enough to pull her from the ticket. The Republican party appears so desperate to win this campaign that they are willing to forfeit any sense of seriousness or constitutional integrity. The nomination of Palin is working because we all love sugar and junk food. Think of it this way, Obama had captured America's attention with his unique life story and compelling case for change. The American public was drawn too Obama they way you are drawn to your cool uncle who surfs and lets you drink beer. The Republicans acted like an insecure mom who feels here kids are not paying attention to her, so what does she do? Ice cream for everyone! All the kids are happy and enjoying their ice-cream but the Mom knows in her heart that in the long run ice-cream is not good for the kids. She has just pulled a cheap stunt to get attention. Palin is the equivalent of ice-cream. She is enjoyable in the short-term, she seemed to make us happy, but what damage will she do in the long run? Palin, who never had a passport until she became governor, is a heartbeat away from taking the toughest job in the world. Her lack of qualifications and her seemingly niavete regarding American foreign policy is shocking. We need deep thinkers in Washington, not someone who is confused by the Bush Doctrine. The Republican party prided itself on being the "serious" party with a deep concern for the welfare of the nation. The nomination of Palin, who many serious thinking Republicans disagree with, shows that they are nothing more than cheap carnival barkers trying to distract us with cotton candy and shiny objects.

Whoa! Knock 'em when they are down. Matt, you did not pull any punches, but your points are well-taken.
Love you,
Denise
P.S., With all of the brilliant choices that the Republicans have, Sec. of State Rice included, why oh why did they choose a ditz?

I have to be Ned Nitpicky and Darrel the Devil's advocate but here goes...with regards to "The Bush Doctrine" The doctrine is in fact made up of different principles that come under a similar foreign policy umbrella..one part of it is "states that harbor terrorists or aid terrorists, are themselves terrorist states" Another part or definition is simply "supporting democracy in the middle east as a means to combat terrorism" and of course the "right to preventative war"
So when Gibson asked Palin if she supports it, she said, "In what respect Charlie?" Which is a perfectly reasonable question based on the fact that the doctrine has been defined and accepted as different things.

But just for clarification I do not like Sarah's politics at all, but it has so far been a brillant move by McCain, of course it could still blow up in his face....we'll see how it plays out...

Sarah Palins answer was right on the mark!! Charlie Gibson was so far off base on asking V.P. Sarah Palins interruptation of the Bush Doctrine. In fact there have been 3 Bush doctrines and the one that Gibson quoted whas NOT the one that is current at this time. So Palins hesitation and question thrown back at Gibson was right and just. Gibson had a hard road to follow. Does he do a factual interview with Palin or does he do one that is going to make him look good with his drive by media croonies. It is obvious what he decided to do.

Sarah Palin is the "real deal." She IS the REAL AMERICAN WOMEN of today. She is smart, articulate and is sooooooooooooooooo comfortable with herself. She is who she is and doesn't try to pretend she is someone else. She is comfortable with being a wife, mother and working women. And she has love for this country and wants to continue to see this country be the best and the greatest country in the world. John McCain could not have picked a better running mate when he picked Sarah Palin. I for one find it quite refreshing to have someone like Sarah Palin who brings to the table not only being the first potential women V.P. of the U.S. but also an American who loves this country more than life and will do all she can to keep this great country safe and free from those that want to bring harm to this great country. My slogan for McCain and Palin is this: An American hero and an American Women..................McCain/Palin
in 2008!!!!! love ya, Susan

Has anyone talked to someone in Alaska? I called my former college roomie who has lived in Alaska for the past 30+ years. My question was, "What do you think of Sarah Palin?"
Without hesitation he said, "She's the real deal. Trimmed $3,000,000 out of the state budget immediately after she was elected to office. She is down to earth, loves the outdoors and makes common sense decisions." I wonder what her thoughts would be on the the exetension of the tollway??? If you want REAL, REFRESHING, DOWN-TO-Earth, change and someone IN- SYNC WITH THE OUTDOORS, send Sarah to Washington.

Serenity NOW!
